Is it true that plastic grocery bags are going to not be used anymore?

I heard that plastic grocery bags are not going to be used anymore by 2009, have you heard this too? is there any other plastic not going to be used anymore? I noticed in stores they are all selling the reusable vinyal bags.Is it true that plastic grocery bags are going to not be used anymore?
I have no idea... Here in most stores it costs to use plastic bags a lot of the time and they sell the vinyl ones.








I don't know though... I love having the plastic bags because I use them as garbage bags afterwards.... saves me money from buying plastic garbage bags. So I think we should keep them around.





If people stopped driving and starting using public transit that would do more than stopping plastic bag use I bet.Is it true that plastic grocery bags are going to not be used anymore?
the reason for that proposed change is to reduce the amount of non degradable materials that are put in dumps.


but I'm not sure the alternatives - reusable bags that you have to bring with you, or bags made from degradable materials, will cause that change, unless of course it will become illegal to use plastic bags.
I get far more plastic bags than I could ever use as trash bags - and I try to refuse a bag as often as possible.....





I dunno if they are banning them....but I sure as heck hope so.....





How is it that we see so many as trash along the road.....I don't recall seeing too many paper trash bags as litter....





In Michigan, we had a tremendous problem with empty cans and bottles as litter.....so we added a deposit to those containers....voila, now we have very few empties along the roads, curbs, laying around in parks, etc....





I'd be all for doing something like that if it meant less plastic getting into the environment. Somehow I suspect people wouldnt want only two items in a grocery bag if they had to pay a dime each [and having worked summers as a bagger - lemme tell ya, the number of people who want two items double bagged is staggering]

But i think all bags are a bit bad or so every thing go in your bin ? .
Some states are banning plastic bags. Too bad the giant supermarkets refuse to stop using plastic bags, which is an incredible waste of oil.


Here in New Haven, Indiana, the local Kroger store clerks don't even offer you a choice of ';paper or plastic'; - they just dump all your groceries into flimsy little plastic bags unless you ask for paper bags. It's an abhorrent waste of oil, destructive to our environment, and callously insensitive to Kroger customers. -RKO- 01/15/08
Dunno...But it's ironic, because stores originally switched to plastic bags because of pressure from environmentalists who were complaining that paper bags killed too many trees.





Yet another example of the ';Law of Unintended Consequences'; ... which basically says be careful about recommending ';solutions'; for unproven problems, because you may end up making things worse in some other way.

Most likely they will be still used, but you have to pay for them.
Many stores are self regulating and not using plastic grocery bags. Even China is announcing a plastic bag ban (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pa鈥?/a> and the same can be said in England. So the world is moving to reduce or remove the use of plastic grocery bags.
